New Jersey Devils News & Updates

The New York Rangers emerged victorious over the New Jersey Devils with a final score of 3-1 in Monday night's clash. The Rangers showcased their prowess with goals from Mika Zibanejad and Erik Gustafsson during the second period, with Vincent Trocheck securing an empty-net goal in the final moments of the third period. Goalkeeper Jonathan Quick exhibited his skill with 20 saves, contributing significantly to the Rangers' success, marking their 10th win in 11 home games.

On the opposing side, the Devils faced their eighth loss in 11 games, and their third defeat in four matches under interim coach Travis Green. Despite their efforts to create scoring opportunities, they struggled to convert them into goals. Kaapo Kahkonen, newly acquired from San Jose, made his debut for the Devils and made 23 saves during the game.

The scoring opened with Zibanejad's impressive backhand goal, swiftly followed by Gustafsson's shot from the point for the Rangers. However, the Devils managed to put one on the board with Simon Nemec's goal late in the second period.

A contentious moment arose late in the second period when Rangers' forward Matt Rempe received a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for elbowing Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler. This incident sparked criticism from the Devils' players and coaching staff, who viewed the hit as reckless and targeted.

Despite the controversy, the Rangers maintained their composure and secured the win. Trocheck's empty-net goal solidified their victory, further enhancing their impressive home record to 23-8-0.
