The 2000-2001 NHL season was a historic one, as the Colorado Avalanche became the first team in NHL history to win back-to-back Stanley Cups with two different head coaches. Led by superstar forward Joe Sakic, the Avalanche defeated the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals in seven games. The season also saw the debut of future Hall of Famer Marian Gaborik, who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie.
