Goalie Sam Montembeault made 48 saves, and Cole Caufield scored a power-play goal in the first period, leading the Montreal Canadiens to a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the season opener for both teams. Despite Toronto committing five minor penalties and hitting the post three times in the second period, Montembeault's crucial glove save on Auston Matthews' one-timer made a difference. Caufield, scoring in the opener against the Maple Leafs for the third consecutive season, became the fastest Canadien since 1997-98 to achieve 150 career points. Both teams will play away games on Thursday night. Read the full game analysis.
