Connor McMichael scored in the third period, propelling the Washington Capitals to their eighth consecutive road victory with a 3-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday. The Capitals have emerged victorious in five of their last six games overall and have outscored opponents 42-18 during their road winning streak. John Tavares scored for Toronto, but the Leafs suffered their first home loss since November 13. McMichael's goal resulted from a chaotic moment in front of the net, when a clearing attempt by Leafs captain Auston Matthews inadvertently hit the referee behind Toronto's goal. This season, Washington's defensemen have amassed 72 points, second only to the Colorado Avalanche's 75. The Capitals are set to face Montreal on Saturday, while the Maple Leafs are heading to Pittsburgh. Read the full game analysis.
