Columbus Blue Jackets History & Overview

The Columbus Blue Jackets, a professional ice hockey team, call Columbus, Ohio their home. They compete in the Metropolitan Division within the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team marked its NHL debut in 2000, entering the league as an expansion team simultaneously with the Minnesota Wild. This introduction of the Blue Jackets marked Columbus's first significant professional sports franchise since the inception of the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer in 1996.

Nationwide Arena serves as the home venue for the Blue Jackets, coinciding with the team's establishment year. The team dons navy blue, red, and silver as their colors. Over their history, the Blue Jackets have qualified for the playoffs on four occasions - in the years 2009, 2014, 2018, and 2019. Their journey in the 2019 playoffs was the furthest they have advanced, making it to the second round, although they have yet to secure a Stanley Cup victory.

Among the roster of distinguished players who have donned the Blue Jackets uniform, Rick Nash, Sergei Fedorov, and Artemi Panarin stand out. Boone Jenner holds the current position of team captain, leading the team into future competitions.
