The 1997-1998 season was a tumultuous one for the New York Rangers, as they finished with a disappointing record and missed the playoffs. Despite having a strong start to the season, the Rangers struggled throughout the year, ultimately posting their worst record since the 1979-1980 season. The team's struggles were due in part to a number of injuries, as well as a lack of consistency from their goaltenders.
