Vegas Golden Knights History & Overview

Located in Paradise, Nevada, the Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team that represents a pioneering presence in Las Vegas as the city's first major professional sports franchise. They embarked on their journey in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the 2017–18 season, entering the league as an expansion team alongside the Seattle Kraken. Matches and events for the team are hosted at T-Mobile Arena, a venue it shares with the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Las Vegas Aces.

The inception of the Golden Knights was spearheaded by Bill Foley, who is also the owner of the AHL's Utica Comets. Foley's initial attempts to bring NHL hockey to Las Vegas in 2007 did not come to fruition. Undeterred, he restarted his campaign in 2014, culminating in the NHL granting Vegas an expansion franchise in June 2016. The reveal of the team's name and logo took place in November 2016, setting the stage for their debut season in the league.

The team's first season was nothing short of spectacular, as the Golden Knights became the first NHL expansion team to qualify for the playoffs. Their inaugural run extended to the Stanley Cup Final, though they were defeated by the Washington Capitals in five games. Despite not clinching the cup, their extraordinary performance in the first season solidified the Golden Knights' status as a formidable force within the NHL, a reputation they have maintained by reaching the playoffs every subsequent year.

The Golden Knights have amassed a formidable and dedicated fan base in a relatively short time frame, frequently playing to sold-out crowds.
